2017 HAWAII FUTSAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HOSTED BY BIG ISLAND FUTSAL
Hawaii Futsal—the governing body for the sport of futsal within the State of Hawaiʻi—will be holding its 2017 State Championships on May 27-29 at the Panaʻewa Covered Play Court in Hilo. Competitions will be offered in the 9-U to 16-U categories (boys and girls divisions). Winners will gain direct berth to compete in the 32nd U.S. Futsal National Championships, to be held in San Jose, California in July—the culminating event of six regional tournament qualifiers held by Hawaii Futsal’s sanctioning body, across the U.S.
Big Island Futsal President, Rico Ferrari, stated, “Thanks to the work of former Mayor, Billy Kenoi, the growth and development of the kids and the sport has been tremendous, with new facilities popping up all over the island. To introduce futsal for the first time ever—at the newly established Panaʻewa facility—and to host the State Championships on Hawaiʻi island, is a special honor and privilege for our kids and community.” Hawaii Futsal President, Vernon Kapuaʻala, added, “The County of Hawaiʻi’s development of multiple multi-court facilities in Pāhoa, Kamuela, and Panaʻewa, is a significant achievement and contribution towards the sport, making Big Island Futsal the befitting host of this year’s tournament. My hope is that we’ll see greater participation at the State level, and more teams competing at the highest level—at U.S. Futsal’s nationals.”
Applications to participate in the 2017 Hawaii Futsal State Championships will be available for download via Hawaii Futsal’s new website on March 8. For more information, contact Vernon Kapuaʻala at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“IN FUTSAL, YOU SEE WHETHER A PLAYER IS REALLY TALENTED. IN NORMAL FOOTBALL YOU DON’T NECESSARILY IDENTIFY TALENT AS EASILY BECAUSE IT’S SO MUCH MORE PHYSICAL. BUT WITH FUTSAL, YOU NOTICE THE SMALL DETAILS IN QUALITY, CLASS, AND TACTICAL UNDERSTANDING.” — XAVI
