US Club Soccer PDP–Hosted by the Valley Isle Youth Select League–on Maui
A total of 39 players from 8 different clubs on Maui and the Big Island, participated in the inaugural US Club Soccer PDP—Hosted by VIYSL—in Makawao on October 5 and 6.
At the camp, players participated in several training sessions and games, with an emphasis placed on teaching players the mentality and behaviors necessary for long-term success.
id2 Director, Gerry McKeown, was in attendance to oversee the program. VIYSL Staff included some of Maui's best youth coaches: Matt Snyder (FA Maui/Soccer Elite), Dave Mena (FA Maui/Seabury High School), Brent Nunez (Maui United SC/Hawaii Elite Soccer Academy), and Kane Palazzotto (Maui United SC/Baldwin High School).
One or more of Hawai'i's PDP Camp participants will be invited to the fourth and final id2 Camp of the cycle—held on December 10-13, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Top performers from all four (2015) camps will be invited to id2 National Selection programming in 2016.
According to Coach Gerry, the id2 Program's success was evident while competing against legendary teams in Argentina and Spain; and the overwhelming majority of U.S. Soccer's national team selection was made up of players who participated in id2.
Hawaii Soccer Federation President and VIYSL Director, Vernon Kapua'ala, stated that, "this year's PDP Camp was an overall success, resulting in a more ambitious effort to grow the program, develop top talent, and provide for more opportunities for next-level advancement, statewide." The O'ahu Camp recently concluded on October 8 and 9. When asked about Hawai'i's players, Coach Gerry responded by saying, "I'm very impressed by the level, the passion for the game, and the intensity of which they play...the talent is good."
